Well they have been playing since the 80's and that definitely hasn't happened. They have survived more than most bands and are still making great music. Yes, what your describing does happen, but it hasn't happened to them so I don't see what the problem is.

listen you guys...if your a true metal fan you will like all albums no matter what i love every single metallica album i think they are still great..you guys are not true metal fans...

you begin to lose sight of why you started and what the music meant to you in the first place, people gradually start seeing you no longer as a symbol but as another band, eventually you start to lose your drive for music, your band gets a bad rep, and you divert from what your fans grew to know you as.

actually i do understand the phrase, and there are several bands out there that have made just as good as, or even better profit that havent sold out. and as for some things that are wrong with it, eventually it will degrade the value of the music over time, your fanbase will diminish, it becomes less and less likely that you will establish a fanbase with a new generation, your overall income will most likely degrade over time, the music becomes more like a job than a lifestyle.

I just love how people complain about bands "selling out" when they dont understand the phrase from the get go. let alone the reasoning behind it. MOST bands that are popular will "sell out" to a label so they can get funded to TOUR and PLAY their music. so by all means SELL OUT ffs =) I really dont understand why people think "selling out" is a BAD thing, i'd love to see someone with a LIST of at LEAST 10 things WRONG with it. =)

i agree with the both of you. while the music is still good, it kind of hurts to see a legendary band like this stray away from what they were. dont get me wrong, i still love metallica and most everything they have done, but then again i would love to hear them come out with something reminiscent of what they used to represent. gods in the music industry? yessell outs? yesi just hope that they get back into the old style.
