maybe when he took off his head, he was a shadow, but you know, kuma's shadow popped out, he might have human characteristics and inside the costume, kuma(human) was there.That when kuma zipped off his head, he(human) was there.

SPOILERIt clearly states later in the game that Kuma is a shadow.

I hope they'll have them in P4--they had them in Digital Devil Saga, and in P3 (and P2: ET, of course!), but in P3 it was just with the main character...*is hopeful*
