Thopter,All British people are, by law, 'British Citizens', but the term 'subject' remains in common usage. In the way that the reporter was using it, it was just another term for citizen. I think it remains in common usage because of reference to the Queen. Ie, it sounds odd to say 'citizen of the Queen', rather than the traditional 'subject of the Queen'.Because the terms are still used doesn't meant they retain their original meanings.

I can just imagine the frustration the BBC reporter was feeling with the scientologists. Watch the whole program before you pass judgement. I don't think he or the BBC need to apologise for anything.

well that is very easy for you too say "no matter what the cercumstances" but i have been to the deth camps in poland and seen it first hand i also studyed psychology and if some one told me that it was the flat of people psychologist not the nizi's then i think i would have lost my temper to oh and buy the way move on for gods sake kicked the red coats ass it was 100's of years ago
