Shot in 1968 on Rick Shaw's "Saturday Hop", Miami, FL. John was 34 years old and had a young looking Bluesbreaker band that didn't look too enthusiastic being on TV. Check out Mick Taylor on the guitar. Sooo young and talented.

A lot of talent passed through Mayall first. There is an extreme lack of video from the early Mayall days, except for lip synched crap like this one.Lot's of stuff from his later years, but not early Bluesbreakers with Clapton, or Green, or Taylor, or...

I'd be interested to know the background to this clip, conkyjoe. At the time (late 60's) there was a stand-off between the mainstream media and blues culture. I am amazed Mayall ever agreed to mime on a show like this as there was so much snobbery (on both sides). Mainstream TV didn't cover people like John Mayall. For Mayall, mainstream TV was infradig. This comes overclearly in the body language of all four musos here. So how did this recording happen at all? I'm intrigued!

You seem to know a little about TV production. I'll give you the rest of the story. Chroma-Key made it's debut in 1968. There was no way to key out 2 cameras at the same time back then. We had no budget for editing nor did we have the ability to edit 2" video tape. This was done "live". I took a loop of 16mm film leader, punched holes in the strip, colorized the strip with colored markers for the effect. So your "sloppy" comment is without merit. Now you know the rest of the story.

its weird - its shot against a blue backdrop so the trippy background can be chromakeyed in, but half the time on the closeups they dont bother and just mime against a boring blue backdrop. Sloppy.

I'll never forget the day the Daily Mail announced Mick Taylor had joined the Stones - 'from John Maynall's' Jazz Band' (sic).I was among the first 50 to park themselves in front of the stage, the night before the Stones' London gig in Hyde Park (July 69) - mainly to listen to Mr Taylor again. Funny to see yourself on the 'Stones in the Park' clips all these years later. 'twas in another lifetime...'
